Cellist Ella Xu began playing the piano at age four and the cello at age five. She is currently a fourth-year scholarship cello student at The Taylor Academy at the Royal Conservatory of Music. Ella is a multi-award winner from a wide variety of competitions in both piano and cello, including The Toronto Kiwanis Music Festival, Arts Richmond Hill, Markham Music Festival, and North York Music Festival. In 2016, she won Second Prize in The American Fine Arts Festival Romantic Competition for piano and Second Prize in The American Protégé Piano and String Competition for cello, and performed in Carnegie Hall. Other awards include Third Prize for Piano at the Canadian Music Competition (under 8 category), First Prize at the Steinway Piano Competition (age 9), and Third Prize in the Chopin International Competition in Hartford. Ella enjoys playing chamber and orchestral music.
