Brother-sister piano duo to star in Silvester concert at Vienna Konzerthaus
As the recipients of the Special Prize in the Classicalia Global Televised Competition Season 1, the astonishingly gifted piano duo of nine-year-old Sophie and Alexander Wagner will perform in the famous Mozart-Saal in the historic Vienna Konzerthaus!
The Wagner siblings will be introduced to the Viennese audience in the annual Silvester concert: “From Budapest with Love” on 30 December, 2022. The program is an exciting brew of Hungarian and German classics, Italian film music, virtuosic gypsy melodies, and vocal delights from Austro-Hungarian operettas, performed by a host of musical celebrities.
The German-born siblings, who have been performing since the age of five, will treat the audience to their own stylings of classical and film scores. The Wagners have already won several prestigious international music prizes and awards. Their latest one is the Classicalia prize, with their precocious mastery at the keyboard in the special category of “Beyond the Score.” Their imaginative and virtuosic rendition of music from the film “Pirates of the Caribbean” captured the hearts and minds of both the jury and the audience.

Another sibling duo, the Hungarian violinist Sándor and cellist Ádám Jávorkai, who are already international audience favorites — they are wildly popular in Japan and many other countries — are the headliners and organizers of “From Budapest with Love.”
Ádám’s personal invitation for this occasion is “For those who love the light muse on New Year's Eve, the turn of the year ‘à la hongroise’ is the right address!” On this exuberant evening, the music of Liszt, Popper, and Hubay will evoke that feeling, as will the treasure-trove of Hungarian/Romanian gypsy ‘csárdás’-style virtuoso tarantellas by Monti and Sarasate.
In addition to the entertaining Jávorkai Brothers and the Wagner duo, highly acclaimed opera and operetta stars from the Hungarian State Opera Gergely Boncsér, and from the Budapest Operetta Theatre Annamari Dancs, will also be accompanied by the Vienna Virtuos Chamber Orchestra. Vibrant classics by Brahms, Popper, and Castelnuovo-Tedesco, as well as the romantic music from the film scores of Nino Rota, Ennio and Andrea Morricone will complete the show.
“Presenter Arabella Fenyves will guide the audience throughout the lovely evening,” says Jávorkai – “or in proper Hungarian: the lively ‘Mulatság!’” We would add to his invitation the amazing opportunity to witness the musical magic spun by two young prodigies: Sophie and Alexander Wagner!
